An Open Space Plan for the Sourland Mountains: Using the Green Space Design Approach

Spring 2003

With help from folks at the D&R Conservancy and the Sourlands Planning Council, students in Intermediate Landscape Architecture II (11:550:332) explored the landscapes of the Sourland Mountains and developed visions for future open space in the region.

The class relied (loosely) on methodology from Green Space Design and entered their final design work in the Green Space Design student competition.

STUDENT WORK

The student projects were widely varied. And their content was often quite large, making web-posting difficult. But here are a few samples provided by students:

One team concentrated on the actual ridgetop and tried to focus open space efforts there (click on image below for student project).

Another team tried to think about the larger region and surrounding Sourlands with a sort of SourBelt.(click on image below for student project).

If you have questions about the project, please contact the instrucutors: David Tulloch (dtulloch@crssa.rutgers.edu) and Marc Knowlton (knowlton@rci.rutgers.edu).
